 The "Crossroads" project.

Together with our colleague Br. Marius, we has been working on the decent housing project for a long time. Today we know that our conversations and efforts were right. Olderly people with a history of homelessness and people who want to break out of this vicious circle have one more social service in this city.

December 2020

Thanks to all of you for supporting us through our donations, thanks to which we are able to rent an apartment for homeless people. We also thank the socially responsible companies: Samsung for the TV, Whirlpool for the washing machine. Thanks for your support. Three people moved into the apartment.

The beginnings

In 2019, the first attempts to introduce this form of aid, which had good results, took place. This whole need arose mainly from the fact that the people we work with do everything to avoid being homeless, not to be perceived and identified by society. We sent these people back to the street or dormitory every night. We have decided that it is essential to deal with decent housing for these people. However, as there is a minimum of social and affordable housing in our country, we had to go the economically demanding way of commercial leasing.

Complex approach

The aim is to expand the possibilities of a comprehensive approach to ending street homelessness by providing proven housing systems. The final output is an independent human being who does not need additional support systems from organizations working with homeless people. This approach also actively enters prevention areas, where a person who is at risk of losing housing is encouraged at multiple levels to avoid homelessness. The social service participates in the co-financing of accommodation for the period necessary for the client's independence, but for a maximum of one year. The client is provided with professional counseling focused on independent life as well as support from all social services available. The whole approach comes from Australia, where it has very good results.
